First Thoughts- These shorts came in an envelope and when I pull them out they were in there own plastic bag. I loved the way these shorts looked and could not wait to get them out. Colors are great and I could already see the quality.

Fit and Finish- I got a 30 in these shorts like I always do and they fit perfect. They have and elastic waistband like previous models which is one of my favorite things about sprawl shorts. These sprawls do however have a slightly different fit to them. They are less baggy which I thought is a welcome change. I would still get your jean size in these as they still fit very well. First thing that I noticed was this rubber thing going around the inside of the waistband. I also noticed the upgrade drawstring and that there are few to no loose threads. When putting them on unlike previous sprawls I did have to undo the Velcro fly due to the waistband not quite stretching as much. I believe this is due to the rubber strip that is now on it which was not that big of a deal to me. The fabric is a 4 way stretch and has tons of give to it plus with the stretch panel in the crotch and split seams these shorts have a huge range of motion. All of the logos are embroidered. The shorts fall just about mid knee level.

Stand up- These shorts work great for stand up. With all of the flexibility of these shorts the range of motion was perfect. Also I noticed the rubber strip in them made them snug around my waist. There was no rid up or shifting around the waist. They felt light and wicked moisture away well without holding it in the shorts. Had no problems throwing high kicks, knees or any other technique.

Ground- Great for the ground as well. I also noticed with the new cut of these shorts that the legs tended to rid up less which was one of my only complaints of previous generations. Once again the rubber in waist kept the shorts very snug around my waist and there was no shifting of riding up there. Had no problems with any sort of technique and the shorts felt very comfortable on the ground.

Pros-
Elastic waistband
Rubber strip in waist
New Fit
4 way material
Overall Quality

Cons-
Had to undo the Velcro fly to put on(I know not a big deal)
Can be a little too tight around waist

Overall- These are a great pair of shorts from sprawl. The fit is almost perfect and the craftsmanship of these is top notch. If you like shorts that have the elastic waistband I would say these are the ones to get and can be had for around $56. I highly recommend these. Pick them up at http://www.sprawl.tv/

**Disclaimer** I received these at no cost for the purpose of review

First Thoughts- I got these shorts from MMA Warehouse as they were an exclusive there and I loved the color scheme. I pulled them out of the box and loved the way they looked. Came packaged inside of plastic bag. Could not wait to try these on as they looked great.

Fit and Finish- I got these shorts in a 30 and they fit perfect and sit right about mid knee level. So far of all the shorts I have tried I really like the way sprawls fit due to the elastic waistband and drawstring. It allows for so much more adjustment then most of the other shorts out there. These shorts a very comfortable and have the standard Velcro closure system all same with the gripflex I don't undo the Velcro and just pull them up. These shorts do have a split seam but you can buy a version that has a closed seam. These have a pocket on the inside which I do not like as I have to untie them every time I want to get to it. There were very little loose threads and all logos are embroidered on. Even though these shorts are listed at a 2 way stretch they feel more like a 4way and have plenty of stretch in them. On top of that they have have stretch panels.

Stand up- These shorts work great for stand up and are very comfortable. I did not notice them while working out and had no problem doing high kicks or knees. They did not ride up or move around on my waist and didn't feel heavy once they had soaked up a little sweat.

Photobucket

Ground- These shorts also work very well on the ground. However they do tend to ride up quite high in the legs with someone in my guard which was the only thing I found annoying. The split seam allows for plenty of movement but I also think is the reason why the legs ride up so much. They did stay around my waist and didn't ride up.

Photobucket

Pros-
Very adjustable
Great fit
All logos embroidered
Elastic waistband
Material

Cons-
Ride up on legs
Pocket on inside of waistband

Overall- I would have to say that these shorts are one of my favorite shorts. The fit is great and the range of movement is exactly what you would expect from these shorts. If you are looking for either your first pair of shorts or another pair I highly recommend these. They are priced about mid level although you can no longer get this color scheme.

Sprawl Gripflex Shorts

Sprawl Gripflex Shorts

Per Manufacture-
The new SPRAWL® GripFlex™ is our 5th generation fight short that gives fighters and grapplers the added dimension of grip to help secure finishing holds and counter the slippery effects of sweat. We use a flexible lightweight, non-abrasive high tech polymer fused to the inseam of the fight shorts to create ‘Grip-Zones’. We have also upgraded the fabric on the rest of the short to a lightweight 4 way stretch compared to the 2 way stretch in our previous generation short, the V-Flex™. The SPRAWL® GripFlex™ provides fighters with a wide range of advantages over traditional fight shorts including comfort, flexibility for maximum kicking range and guard-work and grip to increase your probability of securing finishing holds. That is why it is undeniably the most functional fight short available and the top choice among MMA athletes, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specialists and UFC® fighters.

First Thoughts- These shorts are very well made. The grip panels on the stretch panel look strange but if they work then great. They came nicely packaged and the colors or in my case the lack of look great.

Photobucket

Fit and Finish- These shorts fit very well. I love the fact that they have an elastic waistband as it gives a little room for both weight loss and gain. Also I don't have to undo the Velcro every time I can just pull them up. The fabric is very nice and I like that they have moved to a 4way stretch. The shorts go down to just about mid knee and have an inner storage pocket just like most shorts. These shorts have 2 rubber like grip panels in the inner stretch panel that skin does stick to so lets see if they work like they are suppose to. All logos on these shorts are embroidered, shorts are very well put together.

Photobucket

Stand up- These shorts worked very well for stand up. Had no kind of restriction for throwing knees or high kicks. They also stayed very tight to my waist and didn't rid up at all. They felt very light and didn't soak up moisture and get heavy. Sometimes the grip panels would rub together and make a terrible sound or get slightly stuck together which was annoying.

Photobucket

Ground- This is where I didn't really like these shorts. The waist is still great and doesn't ride up but the legs ride way up and I think it is due to the split seam. Sometimes while people where in my guard the shorts would become a little uncomfortable due to how much they ride up. Also the grip panels do nothing. I found no use for them at all. I could notice that the grip panels were there when I had people in my guard as well.

Photobucket

Pros-
Tons of adjustability
Very good fit
All logos embroidered
Good range of movement
Closure system

Cons-
Gripflex panels do nothing and are a little annoying
Colors bleed a little

Overall- I normally am a big fan of sprawl shorts but these shorts fell short of my expectations. While some of the new colors for these are welcome, if you are going to get a pair if sprawls I suggest to skip over these. Either get the vflex model or there new model the Fusion-S which I have yet to try myself.
